Quantum & Post-Quantum

Sovereignty through speed, security & strategic insight

Digital dominance is shifting. As the operational landscape becomes more contested — on land, in orbit, and across the digital sphere — quantum technologies are no longer experimental frontiers. They are the strategic tools that will define the next era of decision-making superiority, cryptographic resilience, and operational agility.

At Sopra Steria, we are not simply observing the quantum evolution — we are engineering it, with trusted partners, sovereign frameworks, and practical outcomes in mind. For the Ministry of Defence in the Netherlands, we believe quantum capabilities must be harnessed with purpose: to increase foresight, secure communications, and reduce reaction time in critical scenarios.

Why Quantum now? Because anticipation is the new advantage

The Ministry’s digital ambition isn’t limited to today’s platforms — it’s about building capabilities fit for tomorrow’s challenges. Quantum computing is set to transform how defence organisations:

  • Simulate operational scenarios in real-time

  • Encrypt and protect data in post-classical cyber environments

  • Predict system vulnerabilities and resource needs before they become threats

  • Secure command, control, and space-based communication channels

These aren’t abstract promises — they’re capabilities already in development across secure defence projects, and they’re being industrialised for real missions.

Trusted investment. Targeted innovation

Sopra Steria has made long-term, focused investments in applied quantum capabilities — working with strategic partners such as Quantonation to explore and deploy technologies in:

Simulation & Molecular Design: Supporting complex materials modelling and logistics forecasting.

Cybersecurity & Post-Quantum Cryptography: Designing secure-by-default systems that remain futureproof beyond classical cryptographic limits.

Ultra-Precise Detection: Enhancing reconnaissance, surveillance, and threat anticipation systems.

High-Performance Computing: Accelerating analysis, targeting, and real-time scenario planning across complex multi-domain operations.

These solutions aren’t only being piloted — they are being hardened for military relevance.

Military space, cyber resilience & operational command

Quantum technologies bring particular impact to three strategic zones for MoD NL:

Military Space

As space becomes a critical theatre of defence operations, quantum-secure communication is essential. From low-earth orbit encryption to satellite stealth and anti-jamming capabilities, Sopra Steria supports the secure evolution of space-based infrastructure — with sovereignty, resiliency, and survivability built in.

Cyberdefence & Cryptographic Warfare

Post-quantum threats will soon render classical encryption obsolete. We work today to prepare cryptographic protocols that are resistant to tomorrow’s decryption capabilities, ensuring secure communications, system integrity, and cyber sovereignty across defence architectures.

Command & Control

Speed of understanding and speed of response will define mission outcomes. Quantum technologies can support real-time analytics, multi-theatre simulations, and adaptive prioritisation of assets — giving operational commanders superior foresight in moments that matter.

Intelligent Network Analysis (INA): From infrastructure to impact

In collaboration with Telefónica and using Microsoft’s Azure Quantum, Sopra Steria launched Intelligent Network Analysis (INA) — a real-world application of quantum optimisation. Deployed to analyse and scale network infrastructure, INA reduces energy consumption, increases bandwidth efficiency, and avoids over-provisioning.

While this use case focuses on civilian telecom infrastructure, the principle is directly applicable to Defence C4ISR, battlefield networking, and space-ground data optimisation — all within highly regulated, high-resilience environments.

A strategic partner for the long horizon

We are not here to speculate — we are here to industrialise. Sopra Steria’s work in quantum is built around operational realities: hardened environments, strict compliance, mission-critical delivery. That is what makes our approach different.

For the Ministry of Defence in the Netherlands, we bring:

  • European Sovereignty Alignment: Quantum R&D and delivery in line with EU and Dutch sovereignty standards.

  • Secure-by-Design Systems: End-to-end focus on cryptographic resilience, data protection, and compliance.

  • Scalable Innovation: From labs to command structures — ensuring pilot success doesn’t stop at experimentation.

  • Mission Integration: Embedding quantum where it matters — in defence logistics, surveillance, space, and cyber operations.

Ready for the Quantum shift? Let’s build what’s next — Securely.

As your operations grow more digital, interconnected, and contested, the ability to anticipate, secure, and adapt becomes non-negotiable. Quantum capabilities — thoughtfully applied — will empower the Dutch defence ecosystem to lead, protect, and respond with strategic clarity and operational advantage.

Let’s explore what quantum can unlock — together.
