As defence organisations evolve in increasingly complex and interconnected environments, ensuring reliable and efficient operational systems is critical to maintain continuity.
For the Luxembourg Army, the priority was first and foremost to replace a legacy, custom-built platform that had reached its technological and functional limits. While this system had supported logistics and HR operations for years, it had become increasingly difficult to maintain due to an obsolete framework, while lacking the stability and functionalities required for modern defence operations.
This situation created operational constraints and risks, limiting the Army’s ability to evolve its processes and ensure long-term system performance.
The programme was launched to address these limitations and replace the existing system with a stable, scalable, and future-ready operational foundation.
At the same time, the transformation also creates new opportunities to enhance interoperability with national and international defence systems, including organisations such as the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
Building a future-ready operational platform
The transformation introduced a SAP S/4HANA-based platform supporting core business processes, including logistics, HR, maintenance, and financial management, as well as defence-specific operational requirements.
Beyond the system replacement, the initiative enabled the Luxembourg Army to move towards a more standardised and robust environment, improving platform stability and maintainability while reducing dependency on custom developments.
