Sopra Steria has been awarded the Purple NECTAR Prize in the AI category for its Multi-Agent Framework for Command & Control, developed as part of the 2025 Defence Innovation Challenges. The award recognises the most promising new
technologies that can strengthen the Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) through practical, operationally relevant innovation.
Purple NECTAR is the MoD’s annual innovation programme bringing together Defence specialists, industry partners and knowledge institutions to co-develop new mission-ready capabilities.
Award-winning solution: Multi-Agent Framework for Command & Control
Sopra Steria’s winning prototype demonstrates how trusted, explainable AI can support commanders during complex operations by:
improving situational awareness;
accelerating and validating tactical decision-making;
coordinating multi-domain information;
supporting mission resilience through automated analysis and recommendations.
The solution uses a multi-agent AI architecture, in which specialised AI agents each focus on a dedicated operational function – such as intelligence gathering, logistics coordination or risk assessment – and collectively support the command
chain with coherent, explainable insights.
The Purple NECTAR jury highlighted the solution’s practical applicability, responsible AI principles, and alignment with Defence needs for speed, clarity and sovereignty.
Winning the Purple NECTAR Award is a great recognition for the collaborative work between Sopra Steria and Defence innovation teams. Our approach is fully focused on delivering AI that commanders can trust, even in the most demanding operational environments.

Second showcased innovation: Mission-Driven Logistics Simulator (Challenge 2)
Alongside the award-winning Challenge 8 solution, Sopra Steria also presented its prototype for
Challenge 2: Mission-Driven Logistics Simulator (MDLS)
The MDLS is a dynamic logistics simulation environment that enables Defence planners to:
test “what-if” scenarios for supply, transport and sustainment;
identify bottlenecks before they impact readiness;
adapt plans in real time to changing operational conditions;
strengthen mission sustainment through data-driven insight.
Both solutions were developed in close collaboration with Defence specialists during the Purple NECTAR innovation cycle, reflecting a shared ambition to bring innovation from concept to command-ready deployment.
