Sopra Steria and Sopra Banking volunteers raise awareness among primary school children regarding risks of Internet

| minute read

Child Focus joined forces with seven technology companies to raise awareness among fifth and sixth grade children about the importance of safer and better use of the Internet and social networks through the "Internet Safe & Fun" workshop. Sopra Steria and Sopra Banking participated in this initiative for the third consecutive year.

On March 10th, 118 employees of technology companies voluntarily attended primary schools in Belgium. 14 of them were Sopra Steria and Sopra Banking employees. These volunteers, trained by Child Focus, encouraged the children to use social networks in an intelligent and creative way.

Prevention is necessary because young people are increasingly present on all kinds of digital platforms and while online surfing offers thousands of possibilities, it is sometimes very difficult to maintain a good balance. Children need to be guided and supervised, every player in society has a role to play and at Sopra Steria we are aware of the role we play.

"The Internet Safe & Fun project has an impact on the children because it increases their awareness. As a volunteer, you can sensitize the children about the internet." says Paul Gysen, Cloud Consulting Director at Sopra Steria.

A unique collaboration!

This unique cross-sectorial partnership gives us the opportunity to raise awareness and involve hundreds of schools in digital media education and teach them the right reflexes to adopt on the Internet. The "Internet Safe & Fun" campaign is the ideal opportunity for schools to launch initiatives to promote a safer Internet. Thanks to this collaboration, Child Focus reaches over 15,000 children a year.

This awareness-raising programme would not have been possible without the involvement of companies who offer their own employees the opportunity to give these workshops on a voluntary basis and during their working hours. Child Focus provides the educational material and trains the volunteers/employees.

“Child Focus provides everything that is needed for the workshop. All we need to do as a volunteer is bring our enthusiasm and motivation!” says Patrick Mazur, Solution Building Engineer at Sopra Steria
